Small Group Mentoring for '24-'25 School Year
Our mentors dedicate 90 minutes each week to read, play, and bond with their small group of 3-4 Spitfires during their weekly after-school Spitfire Club. Spitfire Club meeting times vary by site, but occur during after-school hours. Though we understand that life happens, we ask that Mentors commit to consistently attending their scheduled Spitfire Clubs, as their absence impacts their girls and the overall atmosphere of our clubs.

NOTE: Spitfire Club still needs three mentors for our Tuesday site at John Adams Elementary from 2:35-4pm! To learn more or express interest, please email mentor@thespitfireclub.org

Key details on our Small Group Mentoring Program:
-
At this time, all mentoring sites are located in Alexandria, Virginia
-
Our Spitfires are in elementary school and our cohorts are organized into two groups - 1st-3rd grades and 4th & 5th grades
-
The mentoring program begins in October and runs through Memorial Day on days when ACPS is in session. We ask that mentors commit to mentoring for the entirety of the school year
-
Mentors have the option to renew their commitment in subsequent years; we prioritize pairing mentees with their previous mentors whenever possible!
-
Cohorts meet at a set time and day of each week (e.g., Wednesdays from 2:30 - 4pm at Cora Kelly Elementary)
-
Spitfire Clubs are led by Spitfire Club staff -- mentors are not expected to facilitate Spitfire Clubs or be responsible for planning and preparation (though we do share our lesson plans with our mentors so that they are aware of what we'll be doing together each week)

All volunteer mentors participate in mandatory training on "the Spitfire way", mentorship best-practices, positive social-emotional development, reading support, and cultural competence.

If you're ready to sign up, please complete this form and a member of our team will reach out with next steps! And thank you!
