At The Spitfire Club, we envision a world in which every girl feels empowered to be the strong and capable protagonist of her own story. We work to achieve this through carefully curated (and FUN!) out-of-school time book clubs. Spitfire lessons are built around excellent diverse books and experiential learning, and they are bolstered by small-group reading support, home library building, and caregiver engagement.
We partner with out-of-school-time programs (affordable housing communities, Title I schools, libraries, recreation centers, and similar groups) to offer hour-long Spitfire Clubs on a weekly basis to the youth they serve. Our Spitfires are youth ranging from 1st through 5th grade, grouped by similar literacy levels. Spitfire celebrates the female experience -- we understand and appreciate that gender is not binary; anyone who wants to participate in our programming is a Spitfire. In fact, several of our Spitfires have identified as boys or as non-binary.
Our programming is free of cost to both providers and participants.
Our Amazing Partners
but we can't do this without additional funding and support. We are currently at full capacity with the team that we have, serving 86 kids each week. Not only that, we're getting requests for Spitfire to come to new locations and current partners are asking to expand our offerings for different grades. The only way we can say yes to these opportunities is by hiring staff, which would allow us to double our offerings!
If you'd like to see more kids who love to read, love themselves, and love Spitfires across all communities, consider supporting our mission today!
